Stem Cell Hope: Free HLA Typing for Rare Diseases

A specialized medical camp for children suffering from Thalassemia and Sickle Cell Disease was recently held in Visakhapatnam. This event saw participation from over 55 families hailing from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Paderu, Srikakulam, and Parvathipuram.
During the camp, more than 200 patient family members provided cheek swab samples for free, high-resolution HLA typing. Experts offered consultations to guide families on potential treatment routes.
Organized by MGM Cancer Institute, Chennai, in collaboration with Saptha Foundation and supported by KGH's Pediatrics Department, the camp also received backing from DKMS Foundation, India, through its Access to Transplantation (ATT) Program.
