The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad is set to provide free heart surgeries for children as part of its yearly social health initiative.
Starting August 13, 2026, children requiring cardiac intervention can visit NIMS without a prior appointment. Screening and consultations will be conducted on a walk-in basis, prioritizing cases based on medical necessity. Following evaluations and necessary tests, eligible children will receive surgical procedures at no cost.
Parents and guardians are advised to visit the CT Surgery Office on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Bringing any existing medical records or test reports is recommended. This program has been running for five years to extend specialized cardiac care to children needing surgery.
The surgeries will be performed under the guidance of Amaresh Rao, Head of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, in partnership with a team of technical specialists from the UK. Renowned London-based paediatric cardiac surgeon Ramana Dhannapuneni will also collaborate on the procedures.
