Tribal Health Camp Offers Free Care to Remote Communities
23 Feb
Summary
- 136 tribal individuals received health screenings at a free camp.
- Free eye, dental, and general health treatments were provided.
- Cancer screenings identified potential cases for further treatment.

A free health checkup and treatment camp was organized for 136 tribal individuals on Sunday, February 22, in Kukkundur, Karkala taluk. The camp, facilitated by the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), screened persons from Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts, focusing on areas historically affected by Maoist activities.
Specialized screenings addressed eye, dental, and general health concerns. For eye issues, 60 individuals were recommended spectacles and 15 required surgery, all to be performed at no cost. Dental examinations led to 18 individuals being referred for treatment. A general health checkup identified five persons needing further care at KMC Hospital.
Cancer screenings for 105 women indicated one suspected case of breast cancer and 28 suspected cases of cervical cancer. Samples were collected for verification, and affected individuals were referred to A.J. Cancer Institute. The ANF provided transportation for some tribal members from remote locations, ensuring broader participation in the health initiative.
