Summary
- 1,000 free cataract surgeries offered to drivers nationwide.
- Cataracts now affect younger individuals, necessitating early detection.
- Professional drivers advised to get eye exams every six months.

To enhance road safety across the nation, Vasan Eye Care Hospital has launched a significant initiative providing 1,000 free cataract surgeries for drivers. This campaign aligns with the observance of National Road Safety Month.
The hospital is also conducting comprehensive eye screening camps specifically for school bus drivers, college bus drivers, and other commercial vehicle operators. This proactive measure aims to address potential visual impairments.
Chief Operating Officer K. Kamal Babu noted a concerning shift in ocular health, where cataracts are no longer exclusively an age-related condition affecting those over 60. Medical professionals are now seeing patients as young as 45, emphasizing the critical need for early detection.
To combat this trend, Vasan Eye Care mandates that all professional drivers have their eyes examined at least every six months. Diligent use of correct prescription lenses is also stressed. Through these efforts, the hospital aims to reduce preventable accidents and ensure drivers' visual fitness.
