An inquiry has been launched into Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, following serious allegations of negligence and procedural irregularities in patient care. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered the probe after a family complained that a youth, who had sustained stab injuries, allegedly died due to delayed treatment.
The family's complaint, lodged during a public hearing, stated the hospital demanded payment before initiating treatment. This led to a multi-departmental inspection team, headed by District Magistrate S S Parihar, visiting the facility. The inspection uncovered significant issues, including violations of building by-laws, illegal construction, inadequate fire safety, and misuse of basement areas.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the injured youth walking into the emergency department, suggesting timely intervention could have been life-saving. The team also examined emergency department records. District Magistrate Parihar indicated that action would be taken against the hospital based on the identified irregularities and alleged lapses in patient care. A detailed report is being prepared.
