12 Mar
Summary
- A lawsuit over a stillborn fetus was settled amicably out of court.
- The woman alleged negligence in care at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
- The case involved claims of human errors in medical treatment.
A legal dispute initiated by Aimee Dunn and Mitchell Waite concerning the loss of their fetus has reached an amicable conclusion. The lawsuit, filed in March 2024, alleged negligence by Horizon health authority, Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, and four physicians for failing to provide adequate medical care.
Dunn presented to the emergency room on March 22, 2022, reporting intense pain and concern for her fetus. She was not continuously monitored and was later diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, severe pre-eclampsia, and diabetic ketoacidosis. An ultrasound the following morning revealed no fetal heartbeat, and she subsequently delivered a stillborn daughter.
The case was discontinued in December 2025, with all parties consenting to the resolution. Dunn's lawyer, Aris Lavranos, described the conclusion as satisfactory and tolerable for his clients. Lavranos, also an emergency medicine physician, suggested the outcome was due to a summation of human errors rather than intentional wrongdoing by the medical staff.
