Summary
- Research confirms fermented rice offers vital nutrients and beneficial bacteria.
- It provides dietary fiber, resistant starch, and essential micro-nutrients.
- Benefits include improved gut health and recovery from gastrointestinal issues.

Doctors at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital have concluded a five-year research study, unveiling the health advantages of Pazhaiya Soru, or fermented rice. The findings, which demonstrate the presence of beneficial bacteria and essential micro-nutrients, have prompted the State's Health Department to launch a public awareness campaign.
This research underscores that fermented rice is a valuable source of dietary fiber, resistant starch, protein, and micro-nutrients like iron, zinc, selenium, and B-complex vitamins. These components contribute significantly to overall well-being and digestive health.
The study indicates that regular consumption of fermented rice can enhance gut health and assist in the recovery from various gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome. A Department of Regenerative Medicine and Research was established at the hospital in 2022 to further explore such health innovations.
