Summary
- FDA approved Viridian Therapeutics' new drug for thyroid eye disease.
- Lumvoa offers a new treatment option to patients with the condition.
- The drug was approved based on studies showing symptom improvement.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Viridian Therapeutics' Lumvoa, a new medication for patients suffering from thyroid eye disease. This decision provides a crucial new therapeutic avenue in a market previously dominated by a single treatment.
The approval, granted on Friday, is supported by data from two late-stage studies. These studies indicated that Lumvoa effectively led to swift and lasting improvements in core symptoms, including eye bulging and double vision.
Lumvoa functions by inhibiting the IGF-1R receptor, which plays a role in the disease's development. It is administered intravenously over 12 weeks through five infusions spaced three weeks apart.
Viridian Therapeutics intends to launch Lumvoa immediately, marking its first commercial product. The company anticipates pricing it comparably to existing therapies on a course-of-treatment basis. Additionally, Viridian is developing a subcutaneous version expected to seek U.S. approval in early 2027.
