FDA Approves 12-Hour Over-the-Counter Pain Reliever

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently authorized a new nonprescription pill offering extended pain relief. This medication is a fixed-dose combination of Kenvue's Tylenol and the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen, designed to provide relief for up to 12 hours.
This new pain reliever is indicated for adults and children aged 12 and older. It can be used to alleviate pain from headaches, backaches, muscle aches, toothaches, menstrual cramps, and minor arthritis pain. Each pill contains 325 milligrams of Tylenol and 110 milligrams of naproxen sodium.
While Tylenol has faced scrutiny regarding a potential link to autism with prenatal use, no definitive scientific evidence supports this claim. Legal actions, including a lawsuit by Texas and revived private claims, are proceeding. Separately, Kenvue's acquisition by Kimberly-Clark for over $40 billion is expected to conclude this year.
