As of November 15th, 2025, a project spearheaded by renowned DJ Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, has been recognized with a prestigious award for its efforts to support people's mental health. The Brighton-based musician has been collaborating with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and the charity Heads On on this initiative.
Last Friday, the scheme was awarded the gold prize in the Sussex Partnership Trust Positive Practice awards. The program, which has already organized over 30 workshops, culminated in the successful Sound Minds performance night held at Rockwater Hove on September 24th. Natalie Rowlands, the clinical specialist occupational therapist who devised the program, expressed her delight at the recognition, stating that it will help open doors to more funding and expansion opportunities.
While Cook was unable to attend the award ceremony, he has been personally involved in funding and supporting the project. Rowlands revealed that the program has already generated interest from various NHS trusts across the country, and she hopes to grow it further by incorporating more activities such as rapping workshops, music production, and singing, with a particular focus on engaging female participants.
