10 Jun
Summary
- NHS England to offer advanced radiotherapy in all centers soon.
- Treatment significantly reduces doses, aiding faster patient recovery.
- Patient experienced fewer side effects and quick return to activities.

All 48 of England's radiotherapy centers are expected to offer an advanced form of precision radiotherapy for prostate cancer within weeks. This new technology allows for a powerful and precise beam to be directed specifically at the cancerous cells, thereby limiting damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
The treatment necessitates 15 fewer doses compared to traditional methods. This reduction is anticipated to help men affected by prostate cancer return to their lives much more quickly. Prostate Cancer UK views this development as wonderful news, expecting it to significantly lessen the burden of cancer on patients and their loved ones.
Early trials are already underway to explore the efficacy of this precision radiotherapy for high-risk prostate cancer patients. One trial participant, Edwin Lambert, 70, described the treatment as 'easier to deal with' than previous therapies, experiencing only a temporary increase in the need to urinate. He was able to resume planned activities within five weeks.
