In a significant crackdown, counterfeit rabies vaccines valued at roughly ₹2 lakh were seized by the Drugs Control Department from a firm located in Chandni Chowk's Bhagirath Palace. The Delhi government emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards the sale of spurious medicines, especially for a serious disease like rabies.
The operation involved searching three premises in Bhagirath Palace, leading to the discovery of 481 units of the counterfeit vaccine. The manufacturer, Human Biologicals Institute in Telangana, confirmed that the seized batch was fraudulent and had never been released by them.
Investigations revealed that the spurious vaccine had been purchased from Kanpur. This information was promptly shared with Uttar Pradesh's Food Safety & Drug Administration, which subsequently conducted raids on two locations in that state. Strict action is promised against all parties involved, including out-of-state suppliers.
