Summary
- Unlicensed practitioner arrested for allegedly practising Ayurveda.
- Accused claimed an 'alternative medicine' degree from an NGO.
- Health department acted after verifying the practitioner's credentials.
A health department operation in Dhubri led to the arrest of CK Rahman, accused of illegally practising Ayurvedic medicine. Rahman, who reportedly arrived from Cooch Behar, West Bengal, allegedly treated patients from an unregistered pharmacy near the Dhubri Medical College and Hospital. Officials confirmed that Rahman lacked the necessary qualifications and registration to practise medicine. He claimed to possess a degree in 'alternative medicine' obtained through an NGO, but this was found insufficient by the health department.
The joint director of health services, Dr. Jyoti Prasad Das, stated that the department acted after verifying Rahman's credentials and finding them invalid for Ayurvedic practice. The accused was handed over to the Dhubri police and is currently being questioned at the Dhubri Sadar Police Station. Investigators are looking into the duration of his alleged practice, the treatments he administered, and whether any accomplices were involved in operating the pharmacy.
