Hair Regrowth Failure Isn't Medical Negligence
12 May
Summary
- Failed hair regrowth doesn't automatically mean medical negligence.
- NCDRC overturned compensation for a patient's PRP hair treatment.
- Consumer forums wrongly equated PRP therapy with stem cell therapy.

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has clarified that the mere failure of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment to achieve desired hair regrowth cannot be construed as medical negligence or a deficiency in service. This ruling set aside compensation previously awarded by consumer forums.
The commission emphasized that individual medical outcomes can vary, and an unsuccessful procedure does not inherently indicate a doctor's lack of service. It was noted that lower consumer forums had mistakenly treated PRP therapy and stem cell therapy as identical, which the NCDRC distinguished.
Further, the NCDRC highlighted the absence of expert evidence to prove doctors deviated from medical standards. The complainant, an advocate, had signed a consent form after reviewing Lifecell's materials, weakening claims of misrepresentation.
