Eye Test Reveals Life-Threatening Brain Tumour
17 Sep
Summary
- A routine eye test led to the discovery of a large brain tumour.
- The tumour was wrapped around both of the woman's optic nerves.
- Eleven hours of surgery successfully removed the benign tumour.
A woman discovered a significant brain tumour following a routine eye test, prompting her to urge others to monitor their sight. Lynne Jones, from Reading, noticed an issue with her peripheral vision and scheduled an eye exam last October, which led to a hospital referral.
Initially expecting new glasses, Jones was instead diagnosed with a large tumour entwined around both optic nerves. The condition was deemed a worst-case scenario but was successfully treated. She underwent 11 hours of surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, resulting in the complete removal of the benign growth.
Jones is now recovering well, expressing gratitude for the medical team and her restored eyesight. The store director of the Reading Specsavers highlighted how regular eye tests are crucial, as they can detect serious underlying health conditions beyond vision correction.
