Revolutionary Surgery Restores Damaged Eye Socket

Surgeons at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow have performed a groundbreaking eye socket reconstruction. This procedure utilized computer-guided navigation, a customized implant, and O-arm imaging, a first for Uttar Pradesh. The surgery addressed severe facial injuries from a previous accident.

The patient had been experiencing double vision, altered facial appearance, and difficulties with eye movement. Doctors noted that reconstructing eye sockets with old fractures and scar tissue is particularly challenging due to lost anatomical landmarks.

This innovative surgery involved real-time guidance matching pre-operative scans with the patient's anatomy. A 3D-designed implant was precisely positioned, with O-arm scans confirming accuracy within the operating room.

This advancement promises improved treatments for patients with complex facial injuries and post-traumatic deformities, enhancing outcomes through precise technological application.
