A 50-year-old man is critically ill and on ventilator support following allegations by his family that he was administered expired intravenous saline at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Hospital in Vashi. His family has accused medical staff of apathy and negligence, stating his condition deteriorated significantly after receiving the fluid. The family claims the saline bottle had expired in July 2026 and that their repeated pleas for attention were ignored.
Despite the patient being admitted with fever and weakness on August 31, his condition worsened after the saline infusion, leading to severe itching and high fever. The family discovered the saline was expired after a significant portion had been administered. The patient was subsequently transferred to Hiranandani Fortis Hospital. An inquiry committee has been formed by NMMC to investigate the incident, with assurances of action based on its findings.
