- Doctors later admitted paramedics were "wrong" and earlier surgery could have saved him

In a tragic turn of events, a 22-year-old expectant father, Ion Chiperi, may never hold his baby after paramedics mistook his stroke for drunkenness. On September 23, 2025, Ion was in bed with his 8-month pregnant partner, Doina, when he suddenly began to feel unwell. Doina called emergency services, but after assessing Ion, the paramedics allegedly dismissed his symptoms, which were consistent with a stroke, as drunkenness. They refused to take him to the hospital despite Doina's insistence that he had not been drinking.
Trusting the paramedics' advice, Doina went back to bed, unaware that the decision would leave her partner fighting for his life. The next morning, she woke to find Ion foaming at the mouth and unresponsive. A second ambulance rushed him to the hospital, but even then, doctors allegedly failed to take his condition seriously, treating him "like a drunk person." It was not until around 7 pm that a brain scan was ordered, revealing a blood clot. Ion underwent emergency surgery at 9:30 pm, but the damage had already been done.
Ion has been in a coma ever since, unable to move or speak, and communicates only by blinking his eyes. Doctors later admitted the paramedics had been "wrong," and that if the surgery had been carried out just hours earlier, Ion "would have walked out of hospital." Now, just weeks away from giving birth, Doina faces motherhood alone and has launched a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of Ion's long-term rehabilitation and recovery. The family is also planning to take legal action for medical negligence, seeking justice for this tragic incident.
