Four individuals in Rajamahendravaram have died from anuria, with ethylene glycol coolant suspected as the primary cause. The toxic substance is believed to have leaked into milk stored in a chiller used by a local milk seller. Fifteen other individuals were hospitalized with similar symptoms after consuming milk and curd made from the contaminated supply.
Health officials confirmed the consumption occurred on February 16. Samples of milk remnants, curd, paneer, ghee, cream, and vinegar have been sent for testing. The health condition of seven hospitalized patients remains critical, with some requiring ventilator support and dialysis.
Rapid response teams have screened over 300 individuals from affected families. Special medicines are being procured from Chennai and Mumbai to aid kidney function. A statewide inspection of milk vendors and storage units will commence shortly to ensure compliance and verify licenses.
