Bowel Obstruction Survived: Laparoscopic Success
30 Aug
Summary
- Patient with severe bowel obstruction and sepsis underwent emergency laparoscopic surgery.
- High bleeding risk due to prior stroke and antiplatelet medication was managed.
- Successful laparoscopic procedure completed without conversion to open surgery.

A critical medical situation was averted on July 7 when a 54-year-old man with severe small bowel obstruction, sepsis, and impending bowel strangulation underwent emergency laparoscopic surgery. The patient’s condition posed immediate threats, including tissue damage and perforation, necessitating urgent intervention. A prior stroke and ongoing antiplatelet medication presented a heightened risk of bleeding during the procedure. Advanced laparoscopic surgeon Nabeel Nazeer and his team successfully completed the surgery laparoscopically. This minimally invasive approach avoided the need for conversion to open surgery, contributing to a smooth recovery. The patient experienced no postoperative complications and was discharged on the second postoperative day. He is reported to be doing well during follow-up.
