Electrocution Survivor's Transplanted Hand Honors Donor

Anamta, a survivor of a severe electrocution that led to the amputation of her right hand at age 13, has experienced a remarkable second chance at life. Years after the accident, she received a hand transplant from a 9-year-old donor. Recently, during Raksha Bandhan, Anamta used her transplanted hand to tie a rakhi around the wrist of her donor's brother.

This poignant moment was deeply emotional for the donor's family. The donor's mother expressed that she felt her own daughter had returned, signifying the profound connection formed. Anamta's accident occurred when she was visiting her aunt in Uttar Pradesh and touched an 11,000-volt live wire on an open terrace. The severe burns necessitated the amputation to prevent infection.

Despite the life-altering event, Anamta demonstrated incredible resilience. She taught herself to write with her left hand and achieved an impressive 92% in her 10th-grade exams. Her determination to not let the accident define her led to the unexpected gift of a transplant, offering her not only a functional hand but also a new family and a lifelong bond with a brother.
