Elderly Man Waits 14 Hours in A&E on Camp Bed Brought by Family

On November 13, 2025, an 83-year-old man named George Morris was forced to wait 14 hours in the A&E department of Hairmyres Hospital. Morris, who has a heart condition and feared he might have sepsis, was unable to sit on the "hard plastic chair" provided by the hospital during his lengthy ordeal.

Instead, Morris' family had to bring in a camping bed for him to lie on. His daughter, Mandy Morris, expressed outrage at the situation, describing it as "an absolutely shameful scene." She explained that at 4 a.m., she had to bring the camp bed after her father had already waited over 14 hours to be seen, despite being referred by a GP for IV antibiotics.

Mandy described the service as "an absolute inhumane" one, with no managers in sight to address the situation. She revealed that this was not the first time her family had faced such a challenge, as her mother had also previously endured a similar experience at the hospital.

Mandy is now using her father's ordeal to challenge the UK government and Hairmyres hospital management, calling for immediate action to address the ongoing issues in the NHS. She emphasized that the staff were "battle-weary and exhausted" and that the problem was not their fault, but rather a systemic failure that needs to be addressed.
