Millions of Eggs Recalled Over Salmonella Fears

A significant recall of nearly 19 million eggs has been escalated to a Class I classification by the FDA due to concerns over Salmonella Enteritidis. Midwest Poultry Services' Texas farms produced the affected eggs, sold under brands including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire's, Country Morning, and Sunups. These recalled eggs were distributed to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, with some also reaching Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico.

The FDA and CDC are actively investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak associated with these eggs. Currently, 98 individuals in 17 states have been infected, leading to 26 hospitalizations; thankfully, no fatalities have been reported. Consumers are urged to check egg cartons for specific plant codes (P-1950 or 0840962) and Julian dates (157-184) to identify recalled products.

Recalled eggs include white and brown shell varieties in various package sizes, from 6 eggs to bulk foodservice containers. The sell-by/best-by dates range from July 20 to August 17, 2026. If consumers possess recalled eggs, they should not consume them and instead discard them or return them for a refund. Thorough cleaning of any surfaces that contacted the eggs is also advised.
