Care Home Rated Inadequate After Safety Breaches
28 Aug
Summary
- Inspectors found four breaches of regulations related to care and safety.
- Ratings for safety, effectiveness, and leadership were downgraded to inadequate.
- Concerns raised over residents left without support and missed safeguarding incidents.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has downgraded Eden Lodge Residential Care Home's ratings significantly following an inspection prompted by risk information. The home, which has a capacity for 60 residents but housed 25 at the time of inspection, was found to have serious issues.
Inspectors uncovered four breaches of regulations, impacting safe care, person-centred care, safeguarding, and overall service management. Consequently, ratings for safety and effectiveness were reduced from 'good' to 'inadequate'. Leadership was also downgraded to 'inadequate', and caring and responsiveness fell to 'requires improvement'.
Serious concerns were noted regarding safeguarding, with incidents not always reported, leading to missed learning opportunities. Some residents were left distressed and without adequate support for extended periods. The CQC highlighted that leaders lacked sufficient control, with audits failing to identify problems with the environment, medicines, care plans, and staffing.
