E.coli Outbreak: Pillsbury Pizza Pops Sickens Dozens

An E.coli outbreak has led to multiple hospitalizations, with twenty individuals falling ill after consuming Pillsbury Pizza Pops. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the outbreak, linked to specific pepperoni and bacon varieties of the popular snack. Affected products, sold in various package sizes, have best-before dates in June 2026, prompting a nationwide recall.

The recalled E.coli O26 strain can lead to severe symptoms, including bloody diarrhea and potentially life-threatening hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which affects kidney function. Canadian health officials are strongly advising consumers to discard or return the recalled Pizza Pops. General Mills, the parent company of Pillsbury, has initiated a voluntary recall, clarifying that other Pillsbury products remain unaffected.

Separately, a recall involving Boss Dairy Farms' mild cheddar cheese for potential listeria contamination was also noted. While no E.coli illnesses have been reported in the U.S., and the cheese recall is not active there, food safety agencies have issued other recalls for listeria. Both recalls emphasize the importance of checking product labels and discarding affected items.
