A UK resident working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been evacuated to a London hospital for monitoring after potential exposure to the Ebola virus.
The individual was brought back on a specially chartered flight as a highly precautionary measure, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The worker is currently in isolation and remains well, with no symptoms.
Ebola has an incubation period of two to 21 days, during which the individual will be closely observed. The UKHSA emphasized that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in the UK and the risk to the general public is low.
This follows a recent incident where a patient suspected of having Ebola in Glasgow tested negative. An outbreak of Ebola in the DRC and Uganda in May was declared a public health emergency by the WHO.
