Ebola Alert: DRC Outbreak Triggers Global Travel Changes
28 May
Summary
- Ebola outbreak declared in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
- WHO declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
- Several countries implement enhanced health screenings and entry requirements.

Travel advisories have been updated for several nations following an Ebola outbreak declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) earlier this month. On May 15, the DRC's Ministry of Health confirmed an Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak in the North-Eastern Ituri Province, with cases also identified in Uganda. The World Health Organization (WHO) has now designated this situation a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
In response, numerous destinations have introduced stricter traveler measures. These include enhanced health screenings and, in some instances, quarantine requirements for residents. Kenya, for example, has implemented advanced screenings for passengers arriving from Uganda, Ethiopia, and the DRC. Tanzania has also reinforced public health measures for incoming travelers. The Foreign Office has consequently revised its guidance for Uganda, Angola, and the Central African Republic, warning of new screening procedures and entry conditions.
