Uganda Beats Ebola While DR Congo Death Toll Surges

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo's eastern region has officially claimed over 1,500 lives, marking it as the second-worst on record. Experts suggest the true fatality count is likely much higher, with authorities confirming the virus is spreading at an alarming rate.

Meanwhile, Uganda has celebrated a significant victory, declaring itself free of the virus after recording just 20 cases and two deaths. Health officials credit the country's success not to luck, but to robust preparedness and lessons learned from past outbreaks.

Uganda's efficient response involved isolating a 12-year-old girl in 2011, demonstrating early vigilance. The country activated a specialist treatment center with medical supplies and a standby team, ready to receive patients quickly.
