Summary
- Renfrew Center launched a campaign to combat eating disorder myths.
- All types of people can struggle with eating disorders.
- Treatment can be life-saving for those affected.

The Renfrew Center has initiated a campaign titled 'Myths We Carry' to actively combat prevalent and damaging myths surrounding eating disorders. Medical professionals stress that eating disorders do not discriminate and can affect individuals from any background.
Brooke Buscio, a 22-year-old who received treatment at Philadelphia's Renfrew Center, shared her personal experience. Diagnosed with anorexia as a teenager, she underwent approximately two and a half years of treatment, including at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, ultimately leading to her recovery and a healthier relationship with food and her emotions.
Jessica Taylor from the Renfrew Center noted that myths often prevent people from seeking necessary help, emphasizing, "You don't have to be sick enough to ask for treatment." The center offers residential and outpatient therapy, with reminders for patients to take "one day at a time" and that "every emotion is temporary."
Buscio, now a college student and a speaker for Renfrew, spoke about the societal pressures, particularly from media, that contribute to unrealistic body ideals. She now hopes to become a child therapist, advocating for the importance of seeking help and the hopeful nature of recovery.
