Summary

  • Telemedicine service facilitated over 50 crore consultations since 2019.
  • e-Sanjeevani supports consultations in 15 languages across all states.
  • India's national telemedicine platform has reached remote and vulnerable populations.

The national telemedicine service, e-Sanjeevani, has achieved a significant milestone by facilitating over 50 crore consultations since its inception in November 2019. This platform has been instrumental in delivering healthcare to remote and vulnerable populations across India.

A recent instance highlighted the service's life-saving capabilities when a child from the Jarawa tribe in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, suffering from high fever and laboured breathing, received a timely diagnosis of pneumonia through remote consultation. This expert intervention led to a rapid improvement in the child's condition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently lauded e-Sanjeevani's expansive reach in his 'Mann Ki Baat' address, citing its role in providing medical assistance to individuals in Kalpeni, Lakshadweep, and the Zanskar region in the Himalayas.

Developed by C-DAC Mohali under the health ministry, e-Sanjeevani conducts 2.5 to 3 lakh consultations daily. It offers services in 15 languages and is accessible in all 36 states and Union Territories. The platform has seen a peak of over 6.3 lakh consultations in a single day.

Usage data indicates that women comprise 57.1% of its users, with a significant portion of consultations coming from individuals aged 46 and above (40.1%). Those aged 60 and above account for 16.2% of users.

Prime Minister Modi attributed the platform's success to the dedication of doctors, public trust, and effective technology utilization. He also noted the contribution of 1.9 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in bringing healthcare closer to rural communities.
