Ebola Death Toll Rises to 291 in DRC

As of the past day, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported 14 new Ebola fatalities, increasing the total death toll to 291. The number of confirmed Ebola cases has now reached 1,118, with 24 new infections identified. Currently, 408 patients are receiving hospital treatment, and 122 individuals have recovered.
Health authorities are also monitoring an additional 699 suspected cases of the virus. The current Ebola outbreak commenced in eastern DRC on May 15. Cases and deaths associated with Ebola have also been documented in the neighboring country of Uganda.
The World Health Organization defines Ebola virus disease as a severe and often fatal illness, with an average fatality rate of approximately 50%. Initial symptoms include a sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat. This can progress to vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and impaired kidney and liver function.
