City of Doncaster Council is investing more than £500,000 into wellbeing facilities at two of its leisure centers. The authority successfully applied for £507,000 from the Sport England Strategic Capital Fund to refurbish Dearne Valley and Adwick leisure centres. This funding will facilitate the creation of new wellness suites equipped with Innerva exercise equipment, a pool pod, and upgraded reception areas.
The council is committed to matching the Sport England grant, a requirement that will be met through borrowing. This initiative builds on previous improvements at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre, which received council funding in 2025 for building fabric enhancements.
Cabinet member James Church emphasized the importance of prioritizing resident health and wellbeing. The planned refurbishments aim to transition the leisure centers from solely recreational spaces to hubs that actively support the community's health and wellbeing needs.
