An Indiana-based company, Albright's Raw Pet Food, has issued a voluntary recall for a specific lot of its 'Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced' dog food. This action is being taken out of an abundance of caution due to concerns that the product may be contaminated with salmonella.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on May 6, 2026. Salmonella poses significant health risks to both pets and humans. Pets may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, though some may show no signs of infection while still being contagious. For humans, salmonella infection can lead to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, with severe cases potentially causing endocarditis, arthritis, or arterial infections.
The recalled product is packaged in one-pound, vacuum-sealed bags. It was distributed directly to consumers across the United States and to a limited number of retail stores in Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and New York. As of the announcement, no illnesses linked to this recall have been confirmed.
Pet owners are strongly advised to stop feeding the recalled product to their dogs and to dispose of it immediately. To request a refund or inquire further, consumers can contact Albright's Raw Pet Food by emailing info@albrightsraw.com with a receipt and product images.
