On the evening of Monday, March 2, 2026, a stray dog gained entry into the mortuary of the Area Hospital in Jadcherla, located in the Mahabubnagar district. The animal was observed nibbling at the finger of a deceased man's body, which had been brought in for a post-mortem examination. The 33-year-old man had reportedly died in a drowning incident.
The hospital authorities stated that the post-mortems are being conducted in an older mortuary building due to the newly constructed block not yet being fully operational. This old facility was described as lacking a proper gate and having broken walls and shattered glass, facilitating the dog's entry between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Fortunately, the body sustained no damage, and the dog quickly left the scene.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad conducted an inquiry and cited administrative lapses. Consequently, the hospital Superintendent, Dr. Chandrakala, along with Duty RMO Harinath, Duty Medical Officer Munisha, and mortuary support staff member Raviprakash, were suspended for negligence.
