Patient's Cancer Warning Ignored by Doctor
20 Aug
Summary
- Doctor failed to immediately follow up on patient's cancer concerns.
- Patient's symptoms persisted after diabetes diagnosis.
- Practice told to apologize for unreasonable delay in diagnosis.

A health watchdog has criticized a Highland medical practice for an unreasonable delay in recognizing specific symptoms that indicated a patient might have cancer. The patient, initially diagnosed with diabetes following unexplained weight loss, repeatedly raised concerns with their General Practitioner (GP) about the possibility of pancreatic cancer as their symptoms persisted.
Despite the patient's specific inquiries about cancer, they were initially referred to specialists treating stomach disorders. It was only through subsequent blood tests that pancreatic cancer was eventually diagnosed. Tragically, the patient passed away approximately six weeks after the diagnosis.
