26 Feb
Summary

- Study found one diet could add three years after age 45.
- Healthy diets are linked to lower mortality risk.

It is not too late to significantly impact your lifespan through dietary changes, even if initiated in your 40s. New research indicates that adopting healthier eating habits during middle age can lead to added years of life.
A decade-long study involving over 103,000 individuals from the UK Biobank examined the effects of dietary shifts. The analysis focused on five distinct healthy diet patterns.
Researchers found that individuals who altered their diets after the age of 45 could potentially gain additional years. One particular diet was identified as being able to add up to three years to a person's life.
Across all five healthy diets studied, adherence was consistently linked to a reduced risk of all-cause mortality and an increased life expectancy. This benefit was observed regardless of an individual's genetic predisposition to longevity, highlighting the power of dietary choices.
