Diabetic's Ignored Toe Cut Leads to Amputation

A minor toe cut, seemingly insignificant for most, tragically led to a below-the-knee amputation for a 56-year-old diabetic man. He concealed the wound for three weeks, fearing he would worry his family about his sugar levels. By the time it was discovered, the infection had spread rapidly, turning the toe black and swollen, necessitating the amputation.

Doctors emphasize that for individuals with diabetes, foot care is paramount due to nerve damage (neuropathy) and decreased blood circulation.
