Health Canada has granted authorization for the Dexcom G7 15 Day continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for adults aged 18 and older with diabetes. This device is designed to simplify diabetes management by reducing the need for frequent sensor replacements, thereby potentially decreasing material waste.
The G7 15 Day system provides real-time glucose data for 15.5 days of wear. It demonstrates an 8% mean absolute relative difference (MARD) and includes a 12-hour grace period for sensor changes. Users can connect it to mobile applications to monitor glucose trends and patterns, and it is waterproof with direct Apple Watch connectivity.
While authorized by Health Canada, the Dexcom G7 15 Day system is not yet available for purchase in Canada. Dexcom states its commitment to simpler, more seamless diabetes management and plans to provide necessary support and education upon product availability. The company, Dexcom, also recently had its Stelo glucose biosensor system cleared by the US FDA for pediatric use.
