In November 2025, Vicki Anderson reflects on the past several years since her husband Bob's dementia diagnosis in 2018. The couple had been married for 41 years, but Bob's condition required Vicki to take on the role of caregiver.
Vicki's top priority was keeping Bob safe and happy at home, despite the challenges of balancing work and caregiving. "It's really difficult to see your loved one change and require more care as time goes on," she said. Vicki's dedication paid off, as Bob found joy in attending a local adult day program that provided him with purpose and socialization.
Tragically, Bob passed away just last year. However, Vicki found solace and support at the Valley Caregiver Resource Center, where she participated in support groups. "That kept me from having to have someone else to be there 24 hours a day, and even more so than that, it gave him purpose and socialization," Vicki explained.
Caregiving can be a lonely and overwhelming experience, but Vicki's story demonstrates the importance of seeking help and community. By prioritizing her own well-being, Vicki was able to provide the best possible care for her husband during his final years.
