Detroit Runs in Undies for Rare Disease Research
15 Feb
Summary
- Dozens ran in underwear on Valentine's Day to raise funds.
- The event supported neurofibromatosis research.
- Over $40,000 was raised for the Children's Tumor Foundation.

On Valentine's Day, February 14th, dozens of individuals participated in Detroit's 12th annual Cupid's Undie Run. Participants, clad in red underwear, tutus, and Cupid's wings, gathered for a pre-run party before embarking on a short run around Comerica Park.
The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for neurofibromatosis (NF), a group of rare genetic conditions that cause tumors to grow on nerves. This year's run has already surpassed $40,000 towards its $45,000 goal for the Children's Tumor Foundation.
Detroit Race Director Brad Porter highlighted the event's dual purpose: fundraising and public awareness. He noted that the unusual spectacle of people running in underwear in February draws attention and provides an opportunity to educate the public about NF and the foundation's work.
In total, the Detroit event has successfully raised over $1 million for NF research throughout its 12-year history. Donations are still being accepted online through the Detroit event's website or the national Cupid's Undie Run site.
