The report indicates a nationwide increase in appointment costs, averaging nearly $20 more per year for both initial and follow-up visits. Steeper price hikes were observed in Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania. Factors contributing to this trend include a limited number of dermatologists, a shift towards non-Medicare-funded cosmetic procedures, and under-resourced public hospital clinics, leading to longer waiting lists and higher patient costs. Experts emphasize that sustainable Medicare funding and investment in public services are crucial for equitable access.
