An essential dementia awareness program recently engaged over 90 residents, all aged 40 and above, in Manila village, Bantwal taluk. The initiative, organized by Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences in association with the Manila gram panchayat, coincided with World Alzheimer's Month. A public health consultant detailed dementia, differentiating it from normal forgetfulness and stressing the importance of early recognition for timely care.
Participants were educated on subtle warning signs, such as repeated questions or difficulty with familiar tasks. Strategies to reduce dementia risk, including managing blood pressure and sugar, staying active, and avoiding tobacco, were emphasized. The program also included valuable health outreach, with MPH students conducting screenings and dental professionals offering free care, facilitating access to affordable treatment options for the community.
