Animals that remain closer to the ground are especially susceptible to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which can penetrate deep into their respiratory systems and bloodstream.

Practitioners report a marked increase in cases of lung congestion, eye infections, and gastrointestinal issues among dogs, cats, and birds over recent months. These conditions are often exacerbated by pollution, which weakens an animal's immune system and can worsen existing viral or neurological problems.

The alarming spike in animal ailments coincides with Delhi experiencing prolonged periods of smog, with the Air Quality Index frequently recorded in the 'severe' category. Vets advise pet owners to minimize outdoor exposure and seek prompt medical attention for their animals.
