Delhi Smog Alert: Change Air Purifier Filters Now!
29 Nov
Summary
- Air purifier filters need changing every 2-3 weeks.
- High pollution days may require filter changes sooner.
- N95 masks are essential; cloth masks offer no protection.

Delhi and Gurgaon are currently experiencing a sharp rise in air pollution, leading to smog and respiratory issues. Neurologist Dr. Priyanka Sehrawat advises residents on essential measures for protecting their health during this period. She emphasizes the importance of regularly changing air purifier filters, recommending a replacement every two to three weeks.
Dr. Sehrawat further clarifies that exceptionally high pollution levels, such as an AQI above 500, may necessitate changing filters even more frequently, possibly every ten days. When venturing outdoors, she strongly recommends using N95 masks, as common cloth or surgical masks do not provide adequate protection against the fine particulate matter in the air.
In addition to air filtration and mask usage, Dr. Sehrawat also highlights the importance of maintaining good hydration and a nutritious diet. Consuming vitamin C-rich foods and maintaining a high-protein intake can bolster the body's defenses against increasing flu cases and overall health challenges posed by the poor air quality.
