Delhi Health Workers Strike for Pay Commission Dues
3 Jul
Summary
- Nearly 500 doctors and healthcare workers protested for pay commission benefits.
- Protesters were denied meetings with the Chief Minister and Health Minister.
- The strike was called off after assurances, but demands remain unresolved.

Nearly 500 healthcare professionals employed by the Delhi State Health Mission (DSHM) participated in a one-day strike on July 3rd, 2026. Their primary demand was the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations, alongside other pending salary-related benefits. Protesters gathered near Vikas Bhawan, braving the heat, after a delegation was unable to secure meetings with the Delhi Chief Minister or the Health Minister.
The striking workers, who form the backbone of Delhi's public healthcare system, also called for revised salary ceilings to restore annual increments, job security for contractual employees, access to Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme (DGEHS) health cards, and improved retirement and death benefits. The Health Mission Doctors' Welfare Association had previously warned of escalating protests if their demands, including the long-pending 7th Pay Commission benefits, were not addressed.
Despite repeated representations and past assurances, the association claims that issues concerning salary increments and benefits have remained unresolved for years. This situation has forced healthcare workers, who provide essential services across various public health initiatives, to resort to industrial action again.
