Delhi Doctors: Free Health Up To 5 Lakh Income
3 Jan
Summary
- Delhi's EWS income limit for free healthcare raised to Rs 5 lakh.
- Private hospitals must offer 10% inpatient and 25% outpatient care.
- High Court directive prompted the significant income threshold increase.

The Delhi government has enacted a substantial increase in the income threshold for free healthcare, now allowing families with an annual income of up to Rs 5 lakh to access treatment in private hospitals. This progressive policy revision aligns with the EWS admission criteria for private schools and addresses the inadequacy of previous income limits.
Following a directive from the Delhi High Court, the Directorate General of Health Services has officially notified the enhanced eligibility criteria. This change is expected to benefit a larger segment of the population, including those from outside Delhi, by ensuring better access to essential medical services at empanelled private healthcare facilities.
Under existing regulations, private hospitals on concessional land are mandated to offer free inpatient and outpatient care to EWS patients. The government has stressed strict adherence to the new income ceiling, with continuous monitoring in place to ensure compliance and effective implementation of this vital healthcare expansion.
