2,800 Kg Unsafe Food Destroyed in Delhi
8 Sep
Summary
- Over 2,800 kg of unsafe food items were destroyed by authorities.
- Khoya, dhaap, and butter found in unhygienic conditions were seized.
- Four paneer samples tested positive for detergent during inspections.
Delhi's Food Safety Department launched an extensive inspection drive in major food markets on Monday, as the festive season approaches. This operation, under the direction of Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, aimed to prevent unsafe food from reaching consumers during the heightened demand.
During the drive, officials inspected markets including Khoya Mandi and Mori Gate, finding approximately 2,830 kg of unclaimed khoya, dhaap, and butter in severely unhygienic conditions. These products, which emitted foul odors and showed signs of spoilage, were destroyed after no sellers claimed them.
Further laboratory tests revealed concerns, with all 10 samples of khoya and cream from Mori Gate failing to meet standards. Inspections at Janakpuri Mandi led to the detection of detergent in four paneer samples, resulting in the destruction of 150 kg of paneer and 10 kg of khoya as a precautionary measure.
The Food Safety Department has been instructed to maintain rigorous surveillance and continue intensive inspections throughout the festive period. Authorities are urging both consumers and food businesses to prioritize safety and ensure that all products sold are compliant and fit for consumption.
