Delhi Cancer Surge: Oral, Lung Cases Climb
17 Dec
Summary
- Oral cancer cases increased significantly, becoming second most common.
- Lung cancer saw the highest year-on-year rise among women.
- Delhi's cancer incidence rates are higher than other major Indian cities.

In Delhi, cancer statistics reveal a concerning upward trend, particularly for oral and lung cancers. Oral cancer has emerged as the second most prevalent, with cases steadily climbing over the past three years. Among women, lung cancer demonstrated the most significant year-on-year growth.
Breast cancer remains the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the national capital. However, the rising figures for oral cancer are noteworthy. While cervical cancer cases showed a marginal decline, oral cancer prevalence, especially among men, saw a steep increase, followed by lung and prostate cancers.
Delhi's Age-Adjusted Incidence Rate (AAIR) for cancer is notably higher than in other major Indian cities like Mumbai and Kolkata. This elevated rate is partly attributed to the city's role as a tertiary care hub, attracting patients from across North India.
