Delhi Battles Persistent Dengue Outbreak Despite Cooler Weather

The city registered 63 new dengue cases last week, taking the total annual count to 1,199 cases. Additionally, 26 malaria cases and 9 chikungunya cases were recorded during the same period, bringing the yearly totals to 649 and 142, respectively.
The capital has so far confirmed only two dengue deaths, while the remaining 13 cases remain pending review by the death audit committee. A senior MCD official stated that the minimum temperature has already reached around 10°C, making the conditions less conducive for adult mosquitoes in the open environment. However, the official added that the relatively warmer ambient temperatures indoors may still allow mosquitoes to survive and transmit the virus.
Delhi has seen relatively low cases in the corresponding period compared to previous years, with 4,061 dengue cases in 2024, 5,241 cases in 2023, and 1,855 cases in 2022. The city's minimum temperature on 2025-11-13T06:40:25+00:00 stood at 10.4°C, three degrees below normal, and is expected to dip further, possibly below 10°C on Friday.
