Defiant Mum Fights Incurable Cancer for Family
24 Dec
Summary
- A mother's intuition during a shower led to early breast cancer detection.
- Cancer returned aggressively, spreading to bones, spine, ribs, and liver.
- She now fights for time with her family, embracing life actively.

In March 2018, Claire Goldthorpe, a mother of two, discovered a lump in her breast during a shower, prompting her to seek immediate medical attention. Following a mammogram and biopsy, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and a mastectomy, Claire received an all-clear in October 2018. However, her relief was short-lived as pain in her pelvis in September 2019 revealed the cancer had spread to her right pelvis and left femur.
Further scans in 2021 showed the cancer had advanced to her spine, ribs, and liver, rendering it incurable. Despite a critical health downturn in January 2022, Claire has continued to fight, pursuing various treatment regimens including immunotherapy. She has prioritized precious time with her wife and daughters, finding strength and a sense of aliveness through her continued participation in sports.
